December Weekend 5k

I. RAN! πŸ₯³

Okay so, probably not a big deal for most people…but let me give some backstory!

I tore my ACL and had reconstructive surgery to fix it when I was 18. My doctor told me that the odds of re-tearing my ACL at some point in my life are pretty high so I’ve been babying it for the past 11+ years. Since it’s low-impact, the elliptical has been my bestie. As much as I LOVE my elliptical, it can get kind of boring at times. I’ve always wished I could just go on a run but I never wanted to risk it. That all changed when I got my Garmin πŸ˜…. Like I said in my “December movement” post, I’m all in with these challenges, including the running ones, so after dinner last night I went on a little run around my neighborhood and it was amazing! (And somewhat liberating? I feel like I’ve been a prisoner of my ACL 🀣.) It felt a little strange since I haven’t even attempted to run in more than five years but my knee didn’t hurt at all during or after which was very surprising!

Anyways, I figured it’d be fun to share what songs I’ve had on repeat during my workouts! I’m all about the jams that keep me pumped (or in my feels because it’s like I’m literally pushing through my emotions, ya know?).

My current faves are:

“Confessions”, “Nont For Sale”, and “Wake Up” which are all by Sudan Archives. If you’ve never heard of her, go listen now. You won’t regret it, I promise.

“White Horses” and “Hallowed Ground” by Bishop Briggs.

And Kanye’s “Real Friends”, “Feedback”, and “New Slaves”.

Also, I ordered a knee brace a few days ago and it was delivered todayπŸ’ƒ…better safe than sorry!

December movement

On Black Friday I treated myself to a Garmin Vivoactive 3. I’m obsessed with this thing. I wanted a smartwatch that was primarily fitness-based and this one checked all the boxes. It was an incredible deal, too! I especially love the Garmin Connect app and the fact that I can partake in different challenges and even compete with others in some of them.

Today is the first day of December and I’ve signed myself up for several challenges that last all month, including:

β€’ Weekly Steps Challenge – Competing against others who also have a 13k daily steps goal. (Only two days in but I’m in the lead! I may actually need to bump my goal up to 15k.)
β€’ December Weekend 5k – Run 5k this weekend. I am not a runner. Why did I do this to myself?
β€’ December Rundown – Run 50 miles total this month. Again…why? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
β€’ December Walking – Walk 30 miles total this month. That should be a breeze!

I’ve been super inconsistent with working out since Felix was born. He was not the best sleeper (and he still wakes up some nights 😴) but I feel like I’m getting enough rest these days to stick to a schedule and get serious about my goals! When I get my mind set on something, I am all in. I love outperforming myself, getting stronger, having more energy, and feeling like a boss bitch (who doesn’t?).

So let’s do this! (And let’s all pray that I don’t re-tear my ACL while attempting to run πŸ™πŸΌ)

Finally some cold weather β„️

The first day of fall was 2+ months ago but it’s still been pretty warm here in the south. Fortunately, we had a cold front roll through last night so it finally feels like the most wonderful time of the year! Just in time too, since we spent the weekend decorating the house and stringing up lights. Now all we need is the tree!

So basically anytime it gets below 50Β°F I make chili and cornbread for dinner.

It’s become a cold night tradition – a chili night, if you will 😎. Normally I either slow-cook it or cook it on the stove but tonight was my first time pressure cooking the chili. Umm. Game. Changer. It was delicious! Add some cornbread cooked in the cast iron skillet and voilΓ ! Bon appΓ©tit πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Felix is ONE

What better way to break in my new blog than with a tribute to our littlest love on his first birthday!

Felix Carson, you are Kenner 2.0. Strong-willed, determined, and silly as can be! You love giving hugs, eating (seriously, you LOVE to eat…cue the “mmmm mmmm”), and trying to keep up with your big brothers. It’s bittersweet watching you grow up; part of me wishes I could keep you little forever. I’m desperately clinging to these moments, making sure to soak them in. I know I’m gonna miss this. At the same time, I can’t wait to watch you come into your own and I’m (anxiously) waiting to see what you and your bubbies get into together. We love you so much, FeFe Feef Foose OT Judy McWiggles!
